It’s the Tucson Organic Gardeners Shop Hop! Saturday December 9th all day! Free tours, classes, & demonstrations at local organic-gardening and sustainability-related small businesses. Plus discounts for Tucson Organic Gardeners members (membership is only $15/year!) on mulch, compost, soil, worms & worm castings, rainwater harvesting supplies, yard art, pots, aquaponics supplies, and PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS from seeds to veggie starts to fruit trees.

All discounts are for TOG members only, but the activities are open to all!

Need to renew your membership or join? Visit us at our membership page to join or renew. Be sure to fill out the membership form & pay your dues if you’re a new member. Renewals can go straight to clicking Pay Dues. If your membership is current by Thursday, Dec 7, the Hop Hosts will have a roster of members and you will be on it. If you join after Thursday afternoon, your receipt is your proof of membership.

Rincon Heights is going all out with a family-friendly day full of cool activities for all ages. It’s a garden party!

  • 9:00 – 1:00 Garden crafts: Pot painting & seed and succulent planting; fashioning garden fairies; making button badges; making seed tapes
  • 9:30 Seed ball making
  • 10:00 Breakfast time for the red wriggler worms! Feed the worms & learn about worm composting
  • 10:30 Carianne Funicelli of Strategic Habitat Enhancements talk on gardening for pollinators
  • 11:00 Using a smart phone to photograph and identify insects & plants
  • 11:30 Lunch time for the worms!
  • 12:00 Ted Warmbrand, folk singer & peace activist, concert of garden songs

Tasting History: Squash Tasting History program about Squash. Taste it, learn about ancient preservation techniques, learn about growing it, and learn about its pollinators! Oh, and buy it! As a big bonus, at 10am renowned Tohono O’Odham poet Ofelia Zepeda will read her poem “Squash Under the Bed.”

Fall Gardening Tips & Tricks for the Cold

  • 2:00 Introduction to aquaponics
  • 2:30 Urban food forests/permaculture/irrigation/rain harvesting/pollinators/native bee hive building,
  • 3:30 Grafting demonstration and plant propagation.
  • Raffle: $20 for a chance at a tree install at your home with a free tree chosen from our nursery stock, plus yard consult or grafting. All proceeds go towards our aquaponics greenhouse to be used for educational purposes to inspire the youth!.

  • Thrive and Grow Garden’s very own, Michael Ismail, will be onsite at our new onsite garden bed demonstration, providing you with winter vegetable gardening tips.
  • Martha Retallick will be signing copies of her gorgeous new book City Nature.

Village Color Gardens
In addition to over 2000 organically grown veggie and herb starts at their “Plant Yard Sale,” Bill and co. will be sharing their knowledge on growing organically in a nursery setting. AND Bill has offered a free 6″ plant to new or renewing TOG members! He’s got a ton of options, including Double Yellow Datura, Double White Datura, Black Pearl Pepper, Succulent Pots, Calamintha, Papyrus, and well you get the idea! A LOT of really cool plants!
