“Bringing Birds Home: Planting with Purpose”

Your yard can be more than a beautiful space—it can be a home for birds! Discover how thoughtful planting with native plants can provide the food and shelter birds need, and learn simple ways to add water, create nesting opportunities, and reduce common urban hazards. Whether you’re starting from scratch or building on an existing garden, you’ll leave with practical ideas for creating a space where birds can thrive.

Speaker: Kim Matsushino from Tucson Bird Alliance

Kimberly is the Habitat at Home Program Manager at Tucson Bird Alliance, with more than 10 years of experience protecting birds by creating and enhancing habitat in urban areas. A native Tucsonan and graduate of the University of Arizona, Kim grew up exploring and appreciating southern Arizona’s unique wildlands and biodiversity. After earning a degree in Conservation Biology from the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, she began her conservation career with Saguaro National Park and Western National Parks Association before joining Tucson Bird Alliance in 2015. Today, Kim works with homeowners and communities to create spaces where both people and wildlife can thrive. She also developed Habitat on Wheels, a mobile outreach program that brings free native plants and habitat resources to communities in southeast Arizona most impacted by urban heat.
